The Women’s Sector is dealing with the development, rights, and protection of women in general. There are tremendous improvements seen in this sector in terms of legislation that seek to protect women. However, domestic violence and women abuse remain a huge concern in Zimbabwe. The new constitution through the bill of rights and the Domestic Violence Act provides for the protection of women, but there is little knowledge amongst women at the grassroots level on how to use such legislation to defend themselves if necessary. Also of concern is the representation of women in decision-making and influential positions both in government, private sector, and political parties. Finally, women still have limited access and control over key productive resources such as land, livestock, and equipment. Advocacy efforts of various NGOs go in line with these observations and include the call for the political implementation of a quota system ensuring women’s full participation in decision-making processes and the economic development of the country.
